Ryosuke Takahashi's story are both slightly different in the manga and the anime. In the manga, before Ryosuke formed the Redsuns, he was known as the mysterious 'White Comet' because he wasn't on any teams. He was just racing on his own. Even though no one knew who he was, the other drivers respected him for his talent. Later on, Ryosuke formed his own team called the Redsuns. To join his team, you had to be chosen and Ryosuke only chose the best racers in Gunma. When Ryosuke's younger brother, Keisuke, caught up in his driving skills they raced together and were both known as the 'Takahashi Brothers' or the 'Rotary Brothers'. Ryosuke also established Operation Kanto, which was his goal for the Redsuns to conquer all of Japan and to make the names 'Redsuns' and 'Takahashi Brothers' legendary. After the Redsuns were dissolved, Ryosuke established another racing team by the name of Project D whose goal was more extensive than that of his previous team. Iinstead of being known as the best racers in Gunma, they attempted to become the best racers in Japan.

His story in the anime - Ryosuke Takahashi started out as autocross and a circuit racer. He was known for his undefeated winning streak and for the rewriting of many course records. Ryosuke later gained the nickname, Akagi's White Comet, when he started racing against people on mountain passes. While racing on mountain passes he was still known for his winning streak and never lost a race. After the 'Akagi's White Comet' era, Ryosuke put together a team of 'elite drivers' and named the group the Redsuns. Their goal was to challenge every team and break every record in Japan so they could claim the title of being the best drivers in Japan. When the Redsuns reached Akina, they encountered a slight problem...

His story in the manga - In the manga, Ryosuke started out as a unknown street racer who had a undefeated winnning record. As a child, Ryosuke dreamed of becoming a doctor. In the manga Ryosuke is known for achieving high marks in school and is taking Pre-Med in the Gunma University, however he is having second thoughts about his childhood dreams, family expectations of becoming a doctor, and his passion for racing. Like in the anime, there was also a 'White Comet' era and the establishment of the Redsuns.

In both the manga and the anime - Not only is Ryosuke respected for his racing skills, but he is also respected for his car knowledge and analysis'. The ways he interprets races tends to amaze his brother and everyone around him. Before races, Ryosuke always makes a plan to win a race by analyzing the strength and weakness of his oponent. He is able to interpret a race and determine how someone won or lost without attending a race just by listening to a play-by-play given by someone such as his brother or a team mate. Ryosuke is also able to tell how a driver drives just by watching them turn, and what's under the hood of the car just by listening to it go by. In the series, the Ryosuke's knowledge about cars is quite comparable to Bunta's. (Takumi's father)
