AT THE BRIDGE
This domain name was registered on June 19, 2003 because I wanted to buy myself something as a birthday present, as I was procrastinating about high school final exams. If you are wondering, my birthday is not on June 19th. The domain itself was set up in late August of the same year.
 •   THE NAME: FLORA FLEUR
Flora-Fleur.net, at first i didn't want a Final Fantasy based name, but after I read the name 'Flora Fleur' I thought it sounded elegant, feminine, and generally pleasing. If you were wondering where Flora Fleur comes from, it was a tranliteration of what you might know as Floral Fallal, one of Yuna's dress spheres in Final Fantasy X-2, a game I dislike with a passion. In Japanese the dress sphere name is フロラ・フルル which is strange because it literally transliterates to "Furora Fururu".
Generally people do not know of the background of Flora Fleur so, I consider the name to be a bit "generic".
Unforunately Flora-Fleur.net was not my first choice of domain names when I registered it back in the day. The one I originally wanted was registered ten days before I registered this, an example of my compulsive buying behavior due to anger? However, thinking about it today, if my first name choice was available, I don't think it was something I name I would have kept as long as this.
If you were wondering what 'Flora Fleur' means, it's quite simple:
Flora: Amongst the many meanings, Flora, in Roman mythology, is the goddess of
flowers and the season spring.
Fleur: means flower in French
 •   THE LAYOUT
My last layout was inspired by a late night and a nostalgic music high. This is no different, but this time the music of choice is a jazz arrangement, probably, I don't quite remember. The guy featured on the layout is a 竹中半兵衛 (Takenaka Hanbei) of 戦国BASARA2 (Sengoku BASARA2). The image of Hanbei was done by 土林誠 (Tsuchibayashi Makoto), the character designer of the game.
Recently my goal in layout designing is to incorporate other pieces of artwork, such as wood block prints, scrolls, and paintings, into my own. In this you will see "foliage" from scrolls. Another feature would be my mandatory sworl. None of my layouts are complete without a sworl.
Something you may notice with this layout are the link name themes. "A Rack of Cloud", "Lady at the Bridge", "Heartvine", "The Gatehouse", and "Wisteria" are all chapter names of Edward Seidensticker's translation of 源氏物語 (The Tale of Genji). Considering that Takenaka Hanbei is from Sengoku Jidai, and Genji Monogatari is from Heian Jidai, the two don't really mix. Oh well?
