» FINAL FANTASY VII : ADVENT CHILDREN ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK

The Advent Children soundtrack was released on September 28, 2005 by Square Enix. Apart from the songs created just for the movie, there are new rock versions of One Winged Angel and J-E-N-O-V-A.

Notes

  • There are rock-ish arrangements for a few of older Final Fantasy VII pieces. They happen to be J-E-N-O-V-A and One Winged Angel. Both which are reminiscent to Nobuo Uematsu's arrangements with The Black Mages, his Final Fantasy rock band!
  • Tifa's Theme, Aeris' Theme, and the Fight theme are, if not, identical to the Piano Collection versions.
  • The ending theme, CALLING, was written by Himuro Kyosuke. The lyrics were by Himuro Kyosuke and Goro Matsui. CALLING was originally released on September 27, 1989 in the NEO FASCIO album. Apparently, instead of having a new song written as the 'image song' of a Final Fantasy installment, Tetsuya Nomura (character designer, and producer) "lobbied" for CALLING to be used. It wasn't until about a week prior to Advent Children's Japan release that Himuro Kyosuke's official site announced the use of the song in the soundtrack. Although the song's inclusion as the ending theme has had mixed reactions from viewers, the song "works" both lyric and music wise. For those who may not be familiar with Himuro Kyosuke, in the simplest words, he is very famous in and familiar amongst people in Japan. He has been releasing music since the '80s with BOØWY, and continues to this day as a solo artist. The thing some people probably don't understand in the context of this film would probably be the sense of nostalgia both CALLING and Final Fantasy VII gives when watching the ending sequence of the film.
  • In the American release of Advent Children, on the second disc there is a special "Making of" feature. Near the middle of the feature, there is a short interview with Nobuo Uematsu explaining certain things he did with the soundtrack. Things such as the encorporation of a rock band and an orchestra with One Winged Angel on how they were so different, but yet they just 'worked'.
  • Personal Notes : Back to the "Making of" feature on the Advent Children dvd, this may sound sad, but the highlight of it for me was when Nobuo Uematsu went "DAN DAN DAN!" to demonstrate the introduction of One Winged Angel. In general, just hearing Nobuo Uematsu speak of the music just makes it seem so much more interesting? He doesn't give the perception of being just merely a composer for the soundtrack. He also gives a understanding of what's going on in the story, for instance his explanation for "Cloud Smiles". Also, Himuro Kyosuke is one of my all time favorite singers since before Advent Children came out. If my excessive writing about him on this page doesn't make you believe me, ask Stacey Anne.

Because sometimes it makes more sense to read things in its original language. In other words, some things can be lost in translation.
