+ Historical Background
Of the many historical references made in the Inuyasha series, since time doesn not permit, everything listed here are historical or cultural things that are associated with Sesshoumaru that i was able to catch onto while reading and watching Inuyasha. Some information here may be identical to that of one of my other sites, Autumn Requiem, which is about a samurai who lived at around the same era which Inuyasha is set. Let this be a warning to you, the webmistress of this site is a history geek and reads them for fun. Sengoku Daimyo Era which Inuyasha is set [ soon ] Oda Nobunaga. 1534 - 1559 [ soon ] Rifles It was during the Sengoku Period in Japan when the war tactics in Japan changed greatly when rifles were first introduced in 1543 when a Chinese ship which carried Portuguese ship wrecked ashore Nishimuro, small inlet of Tanegashima. A man named Tokitaka, in awe of this object which ignites fire while making a sound similar to that of thunder, puchased two from the portuguese and asks several iron craftsmen to make imitations of it. Since the Sengoku Period in Japan is known for being a civil war period, rifles were very popular and spread quickly all over japan. A battle which the tanegashima rifles were involved would be Shinano Asahi Yamashiro battle in 1555. The tanegashima rifle wasn't the first firearm introduced in Japan. The first one would be a firearms from China which wasn't as efficient as the the firearms from the Portuguese. Samurai banners During war, samurais dress brightly to attract opponents to fight them. The helmets they also wear has the same effect but it also 'advertises' to the opponent which rank that specific samurai may be. Samurai banners are also similar in a way. At the top of the banner is a crest of the family they belong to and by bringing a banner around with them into war the opponent will know exactly who they are attacking.
